What's coming up for Musie?

Further grades - Grades beyond grade 1 will likely require a small purchase fee. This will provide immediate access to all of the grades content and will cost less than the price of a equivalent grade book.

Teacher accounts - This will allow teachers to track the progress of their students, seeing their results and engagement by simply logging in.

Why is the product needed?

There are roughly 7 out of 10 children in the UK today play a musical instrument. This roughly equates to 5 million children currently learning a musical instrument today. ABRSM - http://gb.abrsm.org/en/making-music/4-the-statistics This figure is gradually rising with time, however, increasingly these students do not engage with music beyond the purely physical hand movements required to replicate something they have seen in a youtube video. In 2013, Ofsted wrote a report into the current status of the music education system in the United Kingdom, they highlighted a lack of ability for teachers to engage students with even basic concepts, saying this about teaching in schools at the time:

"They failed to ensure that all pupils understood, and could use practically, common musical features such as notation, time signatures, scales, melody shape, chords and key signatures. We believe this lack of engagement and trend towards only engaging with music on a very basic level is down to the antiquated approach the music industry has taken to teaching students about the music theory and other key musical concepts that would help them gain a true understanding about how this music is created. Current music teaching and text books often reference the classical era rather than the music that is popular today. This approach fundamentally fails to capture and nurture the students interest in the subject.

There seems to a be a disconnect that exists in the music industry between the traditional approach to learning and the way that many music students engage with music. Often the conventional route is seen as slightly pompous and antiquated.

Musie helps bridge this gap by providing a learning environment that both is fun to use and engages with the students goals and interests in music. By setting out a structured course the student can see a clear path from where they are now to being a knowledgable musician that is about to both understand the key principles in music as well as write and read written music.
