What is Musie?
Musie is a fun and engaging way to learn and practice music theory online.
How does it work?
Each music theory grade is broken down into manageable short courses that both teach you about an aspect of music theory and then test what you have learnt. Typically these short courses are broken down into 3 sections: lessons, exercises and quizzes.
Lesson - A lesson aims to introduce an aspect of music theory through a series of slides. The information in these slides will often be built on knowledge you should already have from previous musie courses. So it’s best to do the courses in order if you are complete beginner.
Exercise – Exercises give you a chance to practice your written skills. Due to the level of importance placed on writing music accurately, we provide this section as a way to ensure your writing is clear enough for other musicians to read (and neat enough for you to not loose marks in your exams).
Quiz – Quizzes give you a chance to interactively test what you are just learnt in the course. These quizzes come in several forms, some require you to enter notes directly onto a music stave, some require a text based answer and some are multiple choice. Upon completing the quiz you will be given a pass or fail and a breakdown of your results.
Once you have completed and passed each of the course items you will be awarded a badge, indicating that you have covered this aspect of music theory to a passable standard.
Why Musie?
When learning from books or other resources, students can often find learning the principals of music theory quite disengaging and disconnected from actual music (particularly at first). This is often because it is hard to communicate aural ideas through written words, and without an expert music teacher nearby, you wont really be able to test your knowledge effectively.
